Today we travel to the Ribble Valley and stop at Clitheroe, today is Market Day. Clitheroe is surrounded by lush countryside and is overlooked by the castle.
After browsing the many stalls on the market, and exploring the town, we continue to nearby Oswaldtwistle Mill where we meet our guide. Our tour takes us through the villages of Roughlee, Barley & Newchurch, you’ll learn of the sad tale of Alice Nutter, Elizabeth Southerns (Demdike) & Anne Whittle (Chattox), who were accused, tried and found guilty of Witchcraft in 1612 in what is now one of the most famous witch trials in English history. Admire the magnificent scenery, gaze at the moody hulk of Pendle Hill and see the ‘eye of God’ in the tower of St Mary’s Church.
There will be a little time for shopping in the Mill before we head for home.
